Pedal Performing Arts was formed in July 2006 as the successor
of well established Inside Out School of Performing Arts which ran
under Donna Tyler for 10 years. The group was formed with the idea
of providing a fun and friendly theatrically based club which any
one could attend.
There is no audition process at Pedal yet the standard of learning
and teaching is still very high. Our aim is to give 4 to 18 year
olds a wide knowledge of the theatre and allow them to develop more
than one skill. Our workshops include drama, dancing, singing, LAMDA
exams and our productions allow the students to explore back stage
skills and other theatre craft.
Guest teachers are invited in to add variety and we also aim to
take students on at least one theatre trip a year to expand their
experiences of live theatre.
In the Chalfont St Peter and Hazlemere branch we spend half the
year teaching general workshops which last an hour. The other half
of the year is geared towards a production. This production involves
everyone from Workshop 2 upwards and Workshop 1 gives regular presentations.
During the week at Chalfont St Peter we have workshops working towards LAMDA exams which are endorsed by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. As of 2008 UCAS now offer 20 - 65 points to bronze, silver and gold medallists. Pedal has a very high success rate in Spoken English, Improvisation, Verse and Prose and Musical Theatre. Some of our students use this training as a starting block for full-time courses in the performing world while others see it as a way of acquiring presentation and communication skills which will help them through interviews and enable them to deal more confidently with the public in their everyday working lives.
Previous students have gone on to the National Youth Theatre, National
Youth Ballet, television and film work.
